Why do some people work and others don't? Why is there a difference in income between people? Labor economics answers these questions. That is, labor economics is an area of economics that analyzes the behavior of labor market participants. This lecture helps you understand how the labor market works, and it introduces a lot of statistics and empirical results related to the labor market. The topics covered in this lecture are labor supply and demand, labor market equilibrium, compensating wage differentials, human capital, wage structure, labor mobility, labor market discrimination, labor unions, incentive pay, and unemployment.
